TOUR: Charming Orang Utan Island + Penang City Tour (Full-Day by SUV)
OUTSTANDING!!!!!
What an incredible day with our tour guide Lawrence. We were picked up by Lawrence at our hotel, which not all other tour companies offer, this was an added bonus as were quite far from the city centre! We chatted & got our itinerary in order straight away & no stone was left unturned. The added bonus going with Lawrence is that he knew all the Orang Utan's personally. They all reacted when they saw him coming and it was so wonderful to see the mutual respect that they had for each other. Lawrence's knowledge is vast & there wasn't a question that went unanswered. With all the extra curricular activities we chose, Lawrence was front and centre organising it all making sure everything ran smoothly, and it did. Lawrence also recommended a local place to eat lunch with spectacular food!!! Incredible tour made only possible with Lawrence at the helm. Thank you, Myk & Jase

Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation, Perak
Nestled within the lush landscapes of Perak, Malaysia, Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation is a renowned conservation and research center dedicated to the protection and rehabilitation of orangutans. Established in 2000, this unique sanctuary spans a 35-acre island within Bukit Merah Lake, providing a naturalistic habitat for these critically endangered primates.
The foundation serves as a vital refuge for orangutans rescued from captivity, illegal trade, or habitat loss. Through expert care, veterinary support, and behavioral enrichment programs, the facility aims to rehabilitate these intelligent creatures, with the ultimate goal of reintroducing them into the wild where possible. Beyond conservation, the center plays a key role in research, collaborating with global experts to study orangutan behavior, genetics, and ecology.
Visitors to Orang Utan Island can observe these majestic animals up close via guided tours, learning about their biology, threats they face, and conservation efforts. Educational programs and interactive exhibits further raise awareness about deforestation, the palm oil industry's impacts, and sustainable practices.
As one of Malaysia’s leading wildlife sanctuaries, the Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation embodies a commitment to biodiversity preservation. By combining tourism, education, and science, it inspires action to safeguard orang utans—an iconic species vital to our rainforest ecosystems.
