TOUR: Relaxing Penang Tour (Full-Day by SUV)
Lawrence is an excellent driver and guide (his car is AWESOME!). He took extremely good care of us and showed us parts of Penang we never thought of seeing. His quick and positive response to our needs - and sensitivity to us as an avid group of foodies - made the trip especially personal. He was extremely flexible and accommodating. He opened doors for us - sometimes literally - we could never open ourselves.
TOUR GUIDE RESPONSE:

Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation, Perak
Nestled in the serene landscape of Bukit Merah, Perak, Malaysia, the Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation is a remarkable conservation initiative dedicated to protecting and rehabilitating orangutans. Established in 2000, this unique sanctuary spans 35 acres and serves as a refuge for these critically endangered primates and a public education and research.
Orang Utan Island is more than just a wildlife park; it is a pioneering effort to address the challenges faced by orangutans, whose populations have dwindled due to habitat destruction, poaching, and the illegal pet trade. The foundation focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and, where possible, reintroducing Orang Utans into the wild. The island’s naturalistic environment allows these intelligent creatures to thrive, offering them a safe space to recover and exhibit natural behaviours.
Visitors to the island are treated to an immersive experience, observing orangutans up close while learning about their biology, behaviour, and the threats they face. The foundation focuses on education, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and the role of humans in safeguarding biodiversity. Through guided tours, interactive exhibits, and educational programs, the foundation inspires visitors to become advocates for wildlife protection.
The Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation also collaborates with researchers and conservationists to advance scientific understanding of orangutans. By combining conservation, education, and research, the foundation plays a vital role in ensuring the survival of these magnificent creatures for future generations. It is a testament to the power of dedicated efforts in preserving our planet’s precious wildlife.
